WhereToGo

Questions and answers

Find the popular and crowded places near you right now. Post photos, comment, and join the conversation at every place with the people who are actually there. Here are the questions people ask before they install.

Is there an app that shows how busy a bar or café is right now?

Yes. WhereToGo shows a live count of people at every place on a map. Switch the map to Crowded and the pins light up where people actually are this minute, not a rating from last year. It is free on Android: Get it on Google Play

How does WhereToGo know how many people are at a place?

People who use the app and allow location count towards the place they are at, as a number. Everyone is counted, nobody is named unless they chose to be seen there, and the app keeps only your latest position, never a history.

Is WhereToGo free? Are there ads?

It is free, with no adverts, no advertising identifier and no in-app purchases. The company behind it is spdev labs Ltd in London.

Does WhereToGo track my location or keep a history?

No. The app keeps one latest position, overwritten each time your phone reports a move, and only if you allow location at all. There is no location history, no timeline and nothing sold to anyone. You choose, field by field, who can see your photo, age, bio, location and presence.

Is there a free alternative to Swarm or Foursquare for sharing places with friends?

WhereToGo is built for that: post a place you love with a photo and its real pinned location, follow people whose taste you trust, and see their places in a feed and on the map. Unlike check-in apps it also shows how busy each place is right now. Free on Android: Get it on Google Play

How do I find where locals actually go in a new city?

Open the map in Popular mode to see the places people post and visit, with a photo for each one, and filter to cafés, bars, restaurants or parks. Then switch to Crowded to see where people are tonight. Every place also has a chat, so you can ask the people who are there.

Which cities does WhereToGo cover?

The map covers tens of millions of real places worldwide, each with its own photograph, so it works in any city from day one. The live counts and the posts come from people using the app, so a city gets livelier as more people there join. It launched in October 2026.

Is WhereToGo available on iPhone?

Not yet. WhereToGo is on Android 8 and later, in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic and Hindi. An iPhone version is planned, with no date announced.

Can other people see my name at a place?

Only if you chose that. By default you are counted in a place's number but never shown by name. Your presence and location visibility are separate settings you control, from everyone to followers to nobody.

How do I delete my account and my posts?

In the app, open Profile, then Settings, then Delete account. Your profile, posts, comments, messages and position are removed permanently, and the delete-account page on this site explains every step.
